Indonesia's largest low-cost carrier Lion Air opens a new route serving Hang Nadim Airport in Batam to Silangit Airport in North Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra, concerning huge tourism potentials of the regency and its surrounding areas.
"The Batam-Silangit-Batam flight operates on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays," said Samosir regent Mangindar Simbolon in Medan on Sunday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The new route will start operating on Sept.6. The flight departs at 8:30 local time from Batam to Silangit and the return flight departing at 10:15 with ticket prices at Rp 665,000 (US$61.84) one way.
"The new Lion Air route serving Batam-Silangit gives us more happiness because previously, Susi Air has operated from Kualanamu to Silangit with ticket prices at around Rp 500,000," said Mangindar.
With the air transportation available, it is hoped that more tourists, both foreign and domestic, will visit travel destinations in North Sumatra, particularly Tapanuli, as well as Lake Toba and other places.
Silangit Airport is located not far from Lake Toba, which covers seven regencies and municipalities.
"With the starting of the new route on Sept.6, it is hoped that more tourists will participate in the Lake Toba Festival, scheduled to take place from Sept.8 to 14," Mangindar said. (ebf)
